Race Retro, Historic Motor Show 13th to 15th March 2009
13/03/2009
Club Alpine Renault will be on Stand N106 in Hall 3 on March the 13th to the 15th 2009 for the annual Historic Motor Sports Show entitled RACE RETRO. On the Club Alpine Renault stand will be one of the most spectacular rally cars ever created, the Renault R5 Maxi Turbo replicated in the colours of Carlos Sainz.
In its day the R5 Maxi Turbo was an incredible package of power, speed and brutality.
Renault wanted a car to take on the likes of Peugeot, Lancia, Ford, Audi, etc., and though they considered a 4-wheel drive car, they eventually created the R5 Turbo, a mid-engine car with its shape and some of its components designed from the ideas of the Renault 5. The result was a “super car”, the R5 Turbo, originally created to fit into the 2-Litre category in 1979/80 for the World Rally Championship; it would win the Monte Carlo Rally in 1981. The development continued in the early 1980s and the Group B era into the blindingly fast projectile that became the R5 Maxi Turbo. The car that will be on display is owned by Club Alpine Renault member Lee Jones who has recently completed its reconstruction into this fabulous car. Last year we had the Rallycross 1800, the year before the A310 GrpIV, the year before that an A110 Berlinette. So this year is the turn of the R5 Turbo and what a car!. So we hope to see lots of visitors, it is cheaper this year and the car parking too this year is Free. Ticket prices are Friday 13th £20 Adult, £5 Child (aged 5-15) , this includes admission to the Auction Preview. Saturday 14th Adult £15 child £5, Sunday £15 Adult, £5 Child. There is of course the Live rally Stage running on Saturday and Sunday at no extra cost. THIS IS A SHOW NOT TO BE MISSED.
