Kentish Canter - Rally Touristique
August 17th to 19th
17/08/2012
Following the forays into the countryside around the West Midlands by way of the “Shropshire Saunters” and the “Worcestershire Wander”, Club member and staunch supporter of these events George Hamill offered to organise a similar event closer to home in the South of England. The result is “Kentish Canter” and will follow the previous successful format.
George and wife Susan have offered to host a barbeque at the on the Friday evening at their house in Canterbury at a cost of £10 per person to include food and drink and there will be an entry fee of £25 per car as previously.
Saturday will commence with a road run in the East of the county starting from Canterbury with allow for a lunchtime stop. There will be a small treasure hunt on the run but there will be ample time allowed for some sightseeing and spirited driving without the need to chase clues. The venue for Saturday’s evening meal will be very numbers dependant but will be as close to the New Dover Road area as practicable The intention will be to pre-order the meal from a selected menu as in previous years. Dependent upon choice of hotel it may be a requirement to drive there or use a taxi to the location.
Sunday arrangements are yet to be finalised but will probably comprise either a small scenic run for the Sunday morning or a walking treasure hunt again with an arranged lunch stop if requested to end the rally.
A number of hotels most convenient for the start and BBQ etc are listed but there are others. Care needs to be taken as for example if you look for the Premier Inn Canterbury it directs you to the nearest but it is in Herne Bay/ Whitstable on the coast and not really handy at all. George’s home post code is CT1 3YD if members want to use that as a guide on a computer map to what is close and what is not.

It would be advisable if those who intend coming could arrange accommodation as soon as possible as in August there could be availability problems as Canterbury is popular with continentals on holiday. Those suggested are all currently showing availability. They all also have some parking though not secure. Obviously members may wish to seek alternative accommodation arrangements.
It would assist greatly if those interested could contact George ASAP in order to assist in finalising the arrangements
