The 2010 Silverstone Classic on 23 to 25 July is planned to be the best yet, with more racing, more classic cars, more live music and more to see and do both on and off the track for the whole family. Carrying the tag of 'the world's biggest classic racing festival', the Silverstone Classic is much more than a glorious celebration of motor racing heritage. It is a complete event dedicated to providing a fabulous day or weekend out for everyone. "We are building on the success of the 2009 event to make the Silverstone Classic bigger and better," said Daniel Ward of Classic Historic Racing Ltd, the event promoters. "We are proud to be promoting the world's biggest classic racing festival, which is a platform for a great day of family entertainment." On-track is a great line-up of races. It is said this will be proper classic racing, not theatre, as around 1,000 drivers do battle in 800 cars spanning seven decades of motor racing heritage. In total, 23 races will cover Grand Prix cars, sports, GT, saloon and single-seater racing cars from 1930 to the 1990s. Event Director Nick Wigley said, "This year we are celebrating 60 years of the Formula 1 World Championship, which started at Silverstone in May 1950, with three dedicated races to capture the romance, development and British influence on motor sport. We are also proud to add, this year, the hosting of the launch of the Royal Automobile Club Historic Tourist Trophy for a wonderful grid of pre 63 GT cars. So across two full days of on-track action, there are mouth-watering races for every enthusiast." Live music will again be a big feature of the Silverstone Classic in 2010, with major concerts on the evenings of both Friday (23 July) and Saturday (24 July). Entry to both concerts will be included within the circuit admission charge. On Friday night, Silverstone will rock to the sounds of two classic British bands from the 1960s and 1970s, when The Yardbirds and Dr Feelgood take to the stage. Then, on Saturday evening, the story comes up to date with a show including Stars from the X Factor, with Jedward, Danyl Johnson and Ruth Lorenzo, and The Rick Parfitt Jnr. Rock Band. Rick junior has rock in his genes, as he is the son of legendary Status Quo member Rick senior. Before the live concert starts on Saturday evening, there will be an important auction of classic cars and memorabilia, organised by Bonhams. Bonhams Motoring Department is the largest auction house to hold scheduled auction sales of classic and vintage cars and memorabilia, so a spectacular line-up of road and race cars is assured. On Friday evening, a special race will feature celebrities from the worlds of Radio, TV, Music and Entertainment racing head-to-head to raise funds for the Bobby Moore Foundation. The stars will climb into a fleet of specially race -prepared Fiat 500 Abarth’s and take to the famous Silverstone Historic Grand Prix circuit in a half-hour race including a Le Mans-style pit-stop and driver change. Over 100 car clubs, including C.A.R will be displaying around 6,000 privately owned classic cars will pack out the infield, while new for 2010 is an area dedicated to Hot-Rods. Street Car shoot-outs and Group B rally cars of the early 1980s will add to the diversity of attractions. Funfairs, shopping malls, hot-air balloon fly-outs and air displays will all part of the show. Fans of two-wheel action have not been forgotten, either, as motorbikes will play a big part in the Silverstone Classic, with the legendary Harley-Davidson marque at the heart of the two-wheel attractions. Already scheduled to appear on track are seven-time TT winner Mick Grant and current lady TT rider Maria Costello. Both will ride the late-1970s Suzuki XR69 F1 machines in Heron Team colours. Drag bikes, parades and classic bike areas will all add to the event's two-wheel appeal. "The Silverstone Classic is the biggest and best classic racing festival in the World as well as Europe's most entertaining car-themed event," said event director Nick Wigley. "Flat out fun for all the family is core to the attraction of the Silverstone Classic."
